Epic Salmon Action Continues

0thebearfarm13, September 23, 2023September 23, 2023

Salmon fishing continues to be hot on rivers all across Western Washington. Thursday morning on the Lewis river, Bear Farm Outdoors home river, saw reasonable fishing pressure with good pushes of both coho and chinook coming up the low, clear water.

Stretches of river like this, with fast water, no holes to concentrate fish, no boulders or other structure to create eddies, are best fished drifting a bead, yarn fly, or corkie setup. Shout out to Frank, the guy in the orange hoodie, who spent more time helping new anglers get into fish than he did fishing.

A popular setup for drift fishing is an 8’6″ to 9″ medium action rod, 10 to 12 lb. test monofilament, a bait cast reel, and sliding sinker. Many anglers prefer left-handed reels so you don’t have to switch hands from casting and retrieving.

yyyyyy

Hard, floating plastic beads drift well and can withstand being bumped along a rocky bottom better than enamel-coated foam cookies. That said, we have caught many fish on corkies. Use what gives you confidence.

More Fish are on the way

With rain in the forecast for Sunday through Thursday, fresh water in the rivers may raise the water levels and will bring in the next big push of fish. Get your rain gear ready, and get out there!
