Captain Bob Brown, Jr. is back in Marathon, the Florida Keys and sportfishing on the Sundance is red hot.
Recently, the Sundance has landed catches as diverse as swordfish to grouper to wahoo.
Captain Bob writes,
Sailfish season in the Florida Keys is just around the corner, as many fish start showing up along the reef edge to feed on the schools of ballyhoo that have formed over the patch reefs during the summer months. Targeting sails turns from offshore trolling to live baiting along the reef edge from 200′ up to as shallow as 20′ of water as fish move on and off the reef to feed. Look for dipping frigate birds and ” showering” schools of ballyhoo, and have your live ballyhoo ready to pitch! Live pilchards, goggle eyes and cigar minnows are also good baits to target sailfish with a live bait spread, either bump trolling or kite fishing. Wahoo are showing up on the reef edge along the middle Keys! Live baiting or trolling lures have produced in 130-250′ depths. Get out there early!!
All kinds of snapper have been biting the past couple of days on the patch reefs off of Marathon. Yellowtail, mangrove, mutton, and a few exotics, have come from these shallow waters. We are getting plenty of grouper also with a few keepers.
With sailfish, blackfin tuna, grouper, and snappers all biting, now is the time to get on the water. Give us a call to get in on the action!
